The Historic CG36500 Is Back At Rock Harbor For The Summer On Cape Cod.

It is so nice to see the CG36500 docked back at Rock Harbor, getting ready for the summer when people are allowed on board to tour this historic boat.

The CG36500 has so much history. “Coast Guard Motor Lifeboat CG-36500 is a historic, 36-foot lifeboat that is berthed at Rock Harbor in Orleans, Massachusetts. Built in 1946, it is notable for its involvement in the 1952 SS Pendleton rescue, one of the most daring such events recorded in the history of the United States Coast Guard. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005, and now serves as a museum boat.”

If you don’t know the story of the CG36500, it is worth doing some research as it is just amazing. If you haven’t seen the Disney movie, “The Finest Hours,” try to find it. It is an unbelievable true story of the CG36500 rescuing the crew from a sinking ship off of Chatham.

We are so privileged to have this boat in our harbor. It has so many stories to tell and so much local history.

The Money Plants Are Blooming Everywhere On Cape Cod.

The Money Plants are gorgeous and blooming on Cape Cod. You can see them along the trails and roads just about everywhere! (Click on blog link for other photo.)

“It gets its nickname from an ancient Chinese story about a poor farmer that prayed to the Gods for wealth and fortune, only to later stumble upon a plant growing in his field. The farmer couldn’t fathom the beauty of the plant, so he began to grow more of them for others to appreciate. Quickly he became one of the wealthiest men in the area through the sales of the plant.”

I always thought it was called a money plant because when it has gone to seed, the pods look like silver coins blowing in the wind.

Wishing you all a Happy Mother’s Day! May you see some pretty wildflowers somewhere in your day.

Beautiful Gray Catbird On Our Feeder On Cape Cod.

We were taking a hike at Fort Hill earlier in the day where we heard many Gray Catbirds calling back and forth, but we couldn’t see them through the heavy brush. (Click on blog link for other photo.)

But, when we got home, there was a Gray Catbird sitting right on our feeder and we were able to get lots of photos. What a treat!  Such a beautiful bird!
