A Savannah Sparrow… A First For Me On Cape Cod!

We were taking a walk on Boat Meadow Beach when we saw a little bird scurry about in the sand. We both thought it was just a regular “sparrow,” but took some photos anyway… just in case. (Click on blog link for other photo.)

When I got home, I pulled it up on my computer and realized that it was not just an ordinary sparrow, but a Savannah Sparrow…. a first for both of us here on Cape Cod.

Savannah Sparrows are identified by the small yellow patch on their face right in front of the eye. They breed in open areas with low vegetation.

Have you ever seen a Savannah Sparrow?

Gorgeous Hike On The Pamet Cranberry Bog Trail In Truro On Cape Cod.

If you’ve never hiked the Pamet Cranberry Bog Trail in Truro, put it on your list. It is so pretty and so diverse. (Click on blog link for other photos.)

There are so many different variations of the trail that you can take from the overlook of Ballston Beach to the Cranberry Bog itself to the huge dunes at the end of the trail.

As you can see by the photos, I love climbing the huge dune at the end!

Yellow Charlock Mustard Wildflowers Are Starting To Bloom All Over Cape Cod.

It’s so nice to see a splash of yellow along the sides of the roads and trails. The yellow Charlock Mustard wildflowers are starting to bloom everywhere.

This Charlock Mustard Wildflower is a delicate wildflower with 4 yellow petals. It grows 1-3 feet high from May to September. Have you seen any of these pretty wildflowers this spring?
