I always look for these tiny, little Canada Mayflowers this time of year as they only bloom in May and June. They are a small woodland plant with 4-petaled flowers clustered on stems like miniature bottle brushes. There are many of these by the boardwalk on the Red Maple Swamp Trail at Fort Hill.
The flowers are tiny… less than 1/4″ and the plant only grows from 3″-6″. Have you seen any Canada Mayflowers this year?
We were driving to the Beech Forest Trail in Provincetown when I saw these purple Spiderwort wildflowers growing by the side of the parking lot. They were so pretty. I had never seen them there before.
“Its colorful, three-petal flowers first emerge in early spring, and range in color from deep blue to bright pink, and less commonly, white. The blooms survive just a single day, opening in the early morning but fading by the heat of the afternoon.” However, they have a long growing season stretching into the summer months.
Have you ever seen a Spiderwort? This was another first for me!
There are so many different hikes at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. The Bayview Trail has beautiful views along the salt marsh and into the forest, and lots of places to relax and enjoy all there is to see. Have you ever hiked this trail?
Kent Point is a dog-friendly park that has some great trails, and some friendly dogs! I love this trail along the water looking out toward Little Pleasant Bay and then down the river. There is always so much to see.
