Nauset Marsh is beautiful from any view. I took this photograph the other day at Fort Hill on the trail that goes way down to the water, past the big rock on the right from the upper parking lot.
The grass is all brown but the water was so blue and you can see Coast Guard Station in the background. If you haven’t taken this trail, try it. It’s not too hard and just gorgeous!
I love hiking at Nickerson State Park, especially offseason. You can pick one of the trails on the map of make your own using the AllTrails app. We hiked the West Heartbreak Hill Loop Trail yesterday and it was so pretty. (Click on blog link for other photo.) There are so many variations, you can make it as long or as short as you like.
Have you ever hiked in Nickerson State Park? It’s just beautiful with so much diversity. This hike was pretty much in the woods and so pretty. Perfect for this time of the year and especially if it’s windy!
The Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is a great place to take the whole family. There is so many different things to see, any time of the year.
As you head out on the main trail from the visitors center, you will see a variety of whale bones on the left of the trail. They are really cool to see and the kids love them! Take some photographs and see if the kids can identify them when they get home!
The berries on the Bearberry plants are bright red this time of the year here on Cape Cod. They make for a very festive carpet along the sides of the trails. (Click on blog link for other photo.)
In the early summer the tiny flowers on the Bearberry plants are bell-shaped and whitish pink with red stems and tips. The plant itself grows only about 1 foot high and and is very dense so that it looks like a carpet on the ground. In the late fall the flowers are now bright red berries.
This little Tufted Titmouse was searching for food along the side of the Beech Forest Trail in Provincetown. He stopped long enough to look at me so I could get a nice photograph.
Beautiful little bird, don’t you think?
