“Sand fencing on a beach or dune can assist in building a new foredune or fill gaps in dune ridges. The fence reduces local wind speed and traps sand, with different fence configurations creating different dune forms and heights. For example, fencing running parallel to the shoreline can build a protective dune ridge while zig-zag arrangements can create wider, more natural appearing dunes supportive of vegetation growth.”
When visiting Nauset Beach, many people stop to take a photo of the sand fences up in the dunes. They seem to be so classic Cape Cod while they are hard at work!
We’ve had quite a few Yellow-rumped Warblers in our yard this winter. It is always such a treat to see them at the bird bath or feeding at the feeders. This little guy was enjoying a drink on a cold, winter day.
Yellow-rumped Warblers are best identified by the yellow patch on their rump which can easily be seen when it flies. They also have yellow patches under their wings. Beautiful little bird, don’t you think?
When it’s low tide on Cape Cod Bay, you can walk out for miles. At First Encounter Beach, it looks like you can walk forever. The flats are so amazing and ever-changing. Love those colors…
