Tiny Horseshoe Crab On The Beach On Cape Cod

This little Horseshoe Crab shell that we saw on Coast Guard Beach the other day was no bigger than a quarter. It was tiny!

“For the horseshoe to grow larger, it must molt and shed its shell. These “molts” can sometimes be found near tidal flats, left by the juvenile crabs who live there for their first year or two.”

Fascinating, don’t you think?

Perfect Beach Day At Coast Guard Beach On Cape Cod

It was the perfect beach day at Coast Guard Beach, part of the National Seashore, in Eastham on Cape Cod. It was sunny and warm with a little breeze, but not too hot.

We got there early to beat the heat and the notorious “green flies” and it was well worth it. The perfect day to go to the beach…. for an hour or for the whole day. It doesn’t’ get much better…

The Beautiful Monarch Butterflies Are Back On Cape Cod

The colorful Monarch butterflies are back on Cape Cod. They search for Milkweed plants to feed on which Cape Cod has plenty of. I saw this Monarch while hiking at Fort Hill in Eastham a couple of days ago.

Monarch butterflies are just beautiful with orange above with black veins and white spotted margins. Below is more of a  yellow-orange color. The head and body ate black with white spots.

This Monarch was feeding on a Milkweed plant out in the field. You can see his beautiful coloring. Have you seen a Monarch this summer?

Beautiful Everlasting Pea Wildflowers At Fort Hill On Cape Cod

The hot pink Everlasting Pea Wildflowers at Fort Hill are gorgeous and growing abundantly in the fields. They look like blankets of pink  in the distance.

The Everlasting Pea is pink, and sometimes purple, with irregular-shaped flowers. The flowers are about 1″ on a sprawling plant that grows 3-4 feet on roadsides and meadows.

Have you ever seen an Everlasting Pea? Pretty, don’t you think?

Beautiful Bluebirds On Cape Cod

There are lots of Bluebirds here on Cape Cod and usually you don’t have to travel far to see them. This little Bluebird loves to perch on the tree in our yard.

We put up 3 new birdhouses in April hoping that someone might occupy them this summer. We had 3 families of Chickadees move in for the first month or so.  And then some Sparrows moved into 2 of the vacated houses and a Bluebird moved into the remaining house. It has always been my dream to have a Bluebird use a birdhouse in my yard. What  treat! It’s been so much fun watching them come and go and bring food to their young.

Whenever I go near the house a Bluebird flies out so I know that they are still in there. This beautiful Bluebird loves to perch on the branch nearby.
