We finally got out yesterday afternoon when the storm let up a bit and were amazed at the huge waves on the ocean. We’ve never seen anything like them. They were humongous and just took your breath away. Wow!
This is one of my favorite pics of Coast Guard Beach from the road above. Look at those waves! Can you see the little people on the beach? Totally awe-inspiring…
The waves were pretty impressive on the Cape Cod beaches yesterday. We stopped at Nauset Beach, Coast Guard Beach, LeCount Hollow, and Whitecrest in Wellfleet. The waves were getting pretty big but it was the blowing sand that kept many people in their cars. (Click on blog link for other photo.)
The first photograph was at Nauset Light Beach. The last two were at Nauset Beach.
I wonder what the beach will look like today and after the storm…
The new piles of sand at Boat Meadow Beach are ready for Hurricane Lee as the storm approaches Cape Cod. There is usually so much erosion from the rain and high tides on the bay side beaches that they bring in extra sand before the storm.
Our neighbor has several Diamondback Terrapin nests in her yard so it has been fun watching and waiting for them to hatch. Yesterday one of the terrapin nests was quite active with 11 little hatchlings emerging. They were just precious! (Click on blog link for other photos.)
You can see where the little turtles as they scurry about where their nest was. Our local “turtle expert,” Bill Allan had put a cage over it while they incubated so that any predator could not get to them.
He put the terrapins in a little plastic box and gave them some water as we went over to release them by the salt marsh. I didn’t know that these terrapin will spend 4 years outside of the water, just in the woods or undergrowth, as they grow. How fascinating!
I love to drive out to the end of MacMillan Pier and just look around. There is always so much to see and each time, it is different.
The large sailboat docked across the harbor at Fisherman’s Wharf near the mural “They Also Faced the Sea” was just beautiful. Such a pretty scene with such a very moving story!
“They Also Faced The Sea installation was designed to keep the spirit and the presence of Portuguese culture alive by Ewa Nogiec, artist, publisher of iamprovincetown.com and owner of Gallery Ehva, and Norma Holt, photographer in 2012.”
