The dunes at First Encounter look like they’ve accumulated quite a bit of sand over the winter. I don’t remember them being this steep. It must have blown in with some of the storms. You can hardly see the fence post sticking out of the sand.
We were driving to Provincetown yesterday morning and noticed that there was a pretty heavy coating of snow from Eastham to Provincetown. It was really pretty.
Then when we passed East Harbor the snow-covered dunes looked just like the snow-capped Colorado Rockies! Wow! Pretty cool, don’t you think?
I saw this couple sitting on the bench by Rock Harbor enjoying the gorgeous sunset together and thought… what a wonderful way to wish everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day!
It’s so much fun to walk the beaches and see what new things have washed up or been uncovered on the beach. I saw this on Boat Meadow Beach. It looks like 1/2 of a huge keg. Anyone else have any other ideas as to what it is or what it was used for?
“Uncle Tim’s Bridge was established in 1783, when it was first named “The New Bridge”. Uncle Tim’s Bridge crosses Duck Creek and connects Hamblen Island to the central village of Wellfleet. In the 1800s Timothy E. Daniels, known as Uncle Tim, had a retail shop located right across from the bridge which bears his name to this day. Uncle Tim’s Bridge is listed on the State Historic Register.”
There is a small parking lot nearby so you can take the .5 mile walk out to the island for some spectacular views.
