I always look for these tiny, little Canada Mayflowers this time of year as they only bloom in May and June. They are a small woodland plant with 4-petaled flowers clustered on stems like miniature bottle brushes. There are many of these by the boardwalk on the Red Maple Swamp Trail at Fort Hill.
The flowers are tiny… less than 1/4″ and the plant only grows from 3″-6″. Have you seen any Canada Mayflowers this year?
We were driving to the Beech Forest Trail in Provincetown when I saw these purple Spiderwort wildflowers growing by the side of the parking lot. They were so pretty. I had never seen them there before.
“Its colorful, three-petal flowers first emerge in early spring, and range in color from deep blue to bright pink, and less commonly, white. The blooms survive just a single day, opening in the early morning but fading by the heat of the afternoon.” However, they have a long growing season stretching into the summer months.
Have you ever seen a Spiderwort? This was another first for me!
I’ve seen a lot of Mouse-Ear Chickweed wildflowers blooming lately. They are such a pretty little wildflower with white petals that have 5 notches. They get their name because of their hairy leaves which resemble a mouse’s ear.
We were driving down the road when I saw a flash of white in the grass by the side of the road. There, on the side of the road, you could see Star of Bethlehem wildflowers growing in the middle of the grass. Ahhh…. perfect for Mother’s Day!
The “Star of Bethlehem is a winter bulb belonging to the Lily family, and blooms in late spring or early summer.” You can see the “star” in the center of the flower.
Happy Mother’s Day to you all! May you see a spring wildflower somewhere in your day.
I went on my first trip since before COVID 3 years ago to see my my son and my brother who both live in CA. It was a glorious trip and so much fun to see them both in their new homes. My son and I love to hike, so we took many hikes up in the mountains. (Click on blog link for other photos.)
All was good until I slipped on some loose rocks and broke my leg on one of the trails. Ugh! Thus… I have been learning a bit about “car photography,” seeing that I can’t walk very well for a while.
I remembered seeing these Wild Bluebell wildflowers in years past, so I figured that would be my first attempt at photographing from my car. Beautiful little wildflowers that come in shades of blue, purple, white and pink. Have you ever seen a Wild Bluebell?
