It is the season for the Canada Mayflower to bloom on Cape Cod. I have seen it on many of the trails in the past few days. If you hike Fort Hill, you can see it on the sides of the boardwalk. It is so pretty and delicate. (Click on blog link for other photo.)
Canada Mayflower is a small woodland plant, only growing 3′ – 6″ in May and June. Its 1/4″ flowers look like miniatureĀ bottle brushes next to bright shiny leaves.
When the Mayflower blooms, you know that summer is right around the corner! Have you ever seen oneĀ this year?
If you look very closely along the trails at Fort Hill, you will see this tiny, little white wildflower among the tall grasses on the side of the trail. It is smaller than a dime and very easy to miss. And then, if you get very close to it, you will see its delicate beauty… those pink stamens are just exquisite!
I think it is one of the prettiest wildflowers that I’ve seen. What do you think?
The Lady Slippers are blooming all over Cape Cod and they are gorgeous. They like to grow in pine woodlands and there are certainly an abundance of those on the Cape. (Click on blog link to see other photo.)
Lady Slippers have a deep pink pouch and 4 reddish-brown twisted petals on top. The flowers are 1.5″ – 2.5″ and the plant grows 6″-15″ in May and June.
Beautiful little wildflower, don’t you think? Have you seen one this spring yet?
Every year we look forward to the Lupine blooming on Fort Hill. This year they are as beautiful as ever! If you’re in the area, stop by for a big treat… and don’t forget your camera! (Click on blog link for additional photo.)
The Lilies of the Valley are blooming along many of the trails that we have been hiking on. It seems like a real sign of spring when they bloom… such a pretty, delicate flower.
Have you seen any Lilies of the Valley wildflowers this spring?
