Adorable Eastern Bluebird Taking A Bath In Our Bird Bath On Cape Cod

This little Eastern Blue was so cute taking a bath in our bird bath here on Cape Cod. He wasn’t even afraid to bathe while the Mourning Dove stood by watching him. He then shook off on the side of the bird bath.

The last photograph shows him high on a branch in the tree drying off and warming up in the sun.

It must be almost spring. I’ve seen a lot of birds at our bird bath this winter getting a drink of water, but not too many having a bath! Too cute!

Beautiful Red-Breasted Merganser At Wiley Park On Cape Cod

I’ve been looking for a good photograph of a Red-Breasted Merganser all winter here on Cape Cod. And then yesterday when I was hiking at Wiley Park I saw something swimming in the kettle pond near the shore. I quickly got my camera out and got ready. I quietly walked down the little trail to the shore and stood behind a tree. As soon as I saw him get closer, I clicked away. And, as soon as he heard the click, he flew away!

But I think I got a pretty good photograph. What do you think?

Phil and I always said that this diving duck was having a “bad hair day!” Cute little guy, don’t you think?

A Fresh Mussel Feast For this Hungry Seagull On The National Seashore On Cape Cod

I saw this seagull hovering above the rocks on the National Seashore on Cape Cod as it let the bundle of mussels fall and crack open. How ingenious!

Of course, another Seagull was waiting nearby to share in the delicacy. But no, this one was not to be shared! Ha!

Beautiful Northern Flicker On Our Bird Feeder On Cape Cod

This was such a pretty photograph of the Northern Flicker in our backyard. You can see all of his colors: his spotted chest with the black semicircle, the black patch near his beak, the red spot on the back of his head and a very distinct yellow under his tail which is very prevalent when he flies.

Such a gorgeous bird… Have you ever seen a Northern Flicker? I bet you have heard one!

Lots Of Snow Here On Cape Cod!

Well, we got about a foot of snow Friday into Saturday! And the temperatures were in the teens with winds of about 45 mph! Unbelievable!

So we went to the gym in the morning and then hunkered in for the rest of the day! Good day for a fire in the fireplace, a good book or to catch up on my Blog! 🙂 and a cup of hot chocolate!

Rumor has it that we are supposed to get another whopper of a storm on Tuesday. We’re keeping our fingers crossed! It’s supposed to be almost spring!

We’ve  had a lot of birds at our bird feeders in this cold weather. We counted over 40 birds at one point yesterday: Lots of Bluebirds, Goldfinches, House Finches, Red-Bellied Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, Nuthatches, Juncos, Wrens, Yellow-Rumped Warblers, Cardinals and Downy Woodpeckers. It has been such a treat to watch them all day!
