It’s been so cold and so windy here on the Cape that sometimes it’s nice just to take a drive. We stopped at Fort Hill yesterday morning, not expecting to see anything. It was so windy, the car was shaking!
All of a sudden, I saw some movement in the grass. At first I thought it was a Flicker with its black patch on its breast, but then it lifted its head high and I could see bright yellow on its chest. Could it be an Eastern Meadowlark? What a treat to see this colorful bird on this frigid cold winter morning!
Have you be ever seen a Red-Breasted Merganser? They are the coolest looking birds with their “bad hair” days and their red eyes and beaks. (Click on blog link for other photo.)
You can see the difference in coloring between the male and female. The male is much more vibrant as the females are gray overall. So much fun to watch them!
This cute little Downey Woodpecker has been hanging around our back yard all winter. He loves the suet and seeds and our heated bird bath. He is so cute when he takes a drink of water. He looks like he’s holding his head back and gargling. So cute!! Do you have a lot of woodpeckers in your yard?
These two Hooded Mergansers were swimming all over the place at the little pond by the bridge at Wiley Park. They are such a stunning bird with bright yellow eyes. And look at that reflection! Have you ever seen a Hooded Merganser?
