We were taking a walk along Cape Cod Bay at low tide the other morning when we stopped on the dock at Rock Harbor to look at some of the boats. This Egret jumped up on the dock and started walking toward me.
He was so cute, don’t you think?
These Swallows were enjoying their time perched on the wire above this boat. It almost reminded me that fall is not too far off with the birds starting to line the wires. Pretty coloring, don’t you think? (Click on blog link to see other photo.)
And then I moved the car to get a different perspective and all but one Swallow flew away.
I liked the soft colors on a cloudy day. Which photograph do you like better?
About a week ago I saw quite a large fish in our front yard. Hmmm… An Osprey must have dropped it there. It was over a foot long. (Click on blog link to see other photo!)
Then 2 days ago as I was walking outside I noticed an Osprey way up high in the tree right next to our house. I thought that was very interesting. I’ve seen the Osprey flying overhead many times but never seen one land in my yard. It flew away as soon as it saw me.
Then yesterday I walked outside and heard the Osprey chirping very loudly. I looked up and there it was again… with a huge fish on the branch. The fish kept flopping around, as you can see in the 2nd photograph. It flew off after a few minutes, with the fish.
And then about and hour and a half later, the Osprey was back with another large fish, chirping as loud as could be from high atop the branch. It was incredible!
How cool is that?
I wanted to write a blog in honor of my sister, Terri, who died very unexpectedly a year ago today. Her favorite bird was the Blue Jay.
Where we grew up in CT, there were Blue Jays everywhere, always very noisy with their loud jeers. We had never had very many Blue Jays at our home here on Cape Cod…. until this summer.
We now have a family of Blue Jays, a mom and dad and 3 little ones, who hang around our yard constantly. They eat everything in sight and love our little bird bath. Every time I see one of them, I think of her.
I saw this little one at the bird bath the other day and I thought it would be a perfect tribute to my sister. I miss you, Terri. These little ones wake us up at 5:30 every morning and continue with their jeers, clicks, clucks, whirs and whines all day long reminding us of you and your love of them!!
