Cutest Northern Mockingbird Baby At Fort Hill On Cape Cod!

I have not been to Fort Hill in quite a while because it has been so crowded and the trails are not very wide. It was about 2:00pm and I thought everyone would be at the beach and maybe I could sneak over there and see if there were any wildflowers or butterflies. (Click on blog link for other photo.)

I was right about everyone being at the beach as it was much too hot in the afternoon for a hike so there were plenty of parking spots. But I was wrong about the butterflies and wildflowers. I did not see any of either of them. I guess the drought has not been nice to the wildflowers, thus no butterflies to feed on them.

But, as I was rounding the corner on the trail, I heard a little chirp and looked up in the tree. There was a mom Northern Mockingbird perched way up at the top. And then I saw this little one fly from branch to branch trying to get up there too. As soon as he made it to the top, mom flew away and he started squawking! So cute, don’t you think?

  1. I love the way Mom led him to do exactly what mocking birds do – sit on the highest spot to β€œsing”.

Our neighbor and I still remember the one who, years ago, would sit atop her roof at dawn and wake everyone up, singing continuously for what seemed like hours! πŸ™‚

  2. My neighbor and I recently commented that we miss the bird’s morning singing!

This little guy is certainly putting his entire body into his songs!
