Interesting Sand Patterns At Nauset Spit On Cape Cod.

There were the coolest patterns of sand at the end of Coast Guard Beach by Nauset Spit. It almost looks like a tray of swirled fudge. (Click on blog link to see larger photo

You can see the formations as you look out onto Nauset Marsh from the backside of Coast Guard Beach.

Pretty interesting, don’t you think?

Pretty Pink Stork’s-Bill Wildflowers On Cape Cod.

The Stork’s-Bill wildflower is one of the earliest and prettiest of the wildflowers here on Cape Cod. I saw these Stork’s Bill wildfowers at the Visitors Center in Eastham. (Click on blog link for other photo.)

It is an exquisite wildflower with “stems that bear bright pink flowers, which often have dark spots on the bases. The flowers are arranged in a loose cluster and have ten filaments – five of which are fertile – and five styles. The long seed-pod, shaped like the bill of a stork, bursts open in a spiral when ripe, sending the seeds into the air.”

Wishing you all a Happy Mother’s Day! May you find some time to take a little walk outside and enjoy all that Mother Nature has to offer!

Coast Guard Beach Is Open And Gorgeous On Cape Cod!

We took a long walk on Coast Guard Beach yesterday  morning. High tide was a little after noon, so we went out early so we could get back before the tides came in. You can’t walk on Coast Guard Beach at high tide as the water comes right up to the dunes where the trail is.

It was still pretty chilly here as we had our winter jackets on with a fleece vest underneath. The wind was blowing and it was cold.

We keep wondering what will happen this summer if there is no beach at high tide. Or, will Mother Nature straighten it all out by then?

Nauset Spit On Cape Cod Was Spectacular At Low Tide.

I love walking to the end of Coast Guard Beach. It’s a beautiful walk where you might see some nesting birds. It was low tide when we walked there last and the ripples in the sand made for such an interesting photograph.

You have Coast Guard Beach on the left and Nauset Beach way in the distance on the right. You can see the little specks of people across Nauset Spit walking on Nauset Beach.

(I took this photograph last week before Coast Guard Beach was closed because of heavy erosion.)
