A Fresh Mussel Feast For this Hungry Seagull On The National Seashore On Cape Cod

I saw this seagull hovering above the rocks on the National Seashore on Cape Cod as it let the bundle of mussels fall and crack open. How ingenious!

Of course, another Seagull was waiting nearby to share in the delicacy. But no, this one was not to be shared! Ha!

Beautiful Northern Flicker On Our Bird Feeder On Cape Cod

This was such a pretty photograph of the Northern Flicker in our backyard. You can see all of his colors: his spotted chest with the black semicircle, the black patch near his beak, the red spot on the back of his head and a very distinct yellow under his tail which is very prevalent when he flies.

Such a gorgeous bird… Have you ever seen a Northern Flicker? I bet you have heard one!

Lots Of Snow Here On Cape Cod!

Well, we got about a foot of snow Friday into Saturday! And the temperatures were in the teens with winds of about 45 mph! Unbelievable!

So we went to the gym in the morning and then hunkered in for the rest of the day! Good day for a fire in the fireplace, a good book or to catch up on my Blog! 🙂 and a cup of hot chocolate!

Rumor has it that we are supposed to get another whopper of a storm on Tuesday. We’re keeping our fingers crossed! It’s supposed to be almost spring!

We’ve  had a lot of birds at our bird feeders in this cold weather. We counted over 40 birds at one point yesterday: Lots of Bluebirds, Goldfinches, House Finches, Red-Bellied Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, Nuthatches, Juncos, Wrens, Yellow-Rumped Warblers, Cardinals and Downy Woodpeckers. It has been such a treat to watch them all day!

Great Blue Heron On Salt Pond Trail On Cape Cod

I’ve seen quite a few Great Blue Herons this winter by the salt marshes on Cape Cod. This one was hidden in the grasses on the Salt Pond Trail in Eastham on the National Seashore. I saw him as he stood up tall hunting for lunch in the creek.

The Great Blue Heron is still my favorite bird. He is so beautiful and majestic, especially in the summer when all his plumage is on display!
