Least Terns Feeding On Coast Guard Beach On Cape Cod.

You never know what kinds of birds you will see on Coast Guard Beach on Cape Cod. Today it was the Least Tern. They are such a beautiful bird. (Click on blog link to see other photo.)

I couldn’t figure out whether it was a parent feeding its young or just two Least Terns interacting on the beach. Whichever it was, it was pretty cool to watch.

Seal Island Off Of Coast Guard Beach On Cape Cod.

Each year there seems to be  a “seal island” on one of the sandbars by Coast Guard Beach or Nauset Beach. The seals pack themselves together and enjoy that little bit of time until the tide comes in again. (Click blog link to see other photo.)

The 2nd photo is of “seal island” not zoomed in. It is pretty far away from shore.

Enjoying Summer And Swimming At Coast Guard Beach On Cape Cod!

Yesterday it crowded at Coast Guard Beach! I’ve never seen so many people  enjoying the gorgeous day. It was that perfect beach day… sunny and warm.  And it was a nice surprise with all that we’ve been reading in the news about the Cape. (Click blog link to see other photo.)

And… people were enjoying the cool water to escape the heat of the beach. It was the perfect summer day!

Beautiful Coral Hairstreak Butterfly At Fort Hill On Cape Cod.

I had never seen a Coral Hairstreak before, so when I took this photograph, I had to do a little research. They are a small butterfly, only 1-1 1/4″ and overall brown with bright coral markings.

Have you ever seen a Coral Hairstreak? Beautiful butterfly, don’t you think? Love how it landed on the orange Butterfly Weed Plant… so pretty. It seems like everytime I go to Fort Hill I see another new butterfly. Such a magical place.

Gorgeous Pink Dianthus Deptford Wildflowers At Fort Hill On Cape Cod.

The pink Dianthus Deptford wildflowers that are blooming at Fort Hill now are just spectacular! They are tiny little flowers, only about 1/2″.  They have up to 5 stamens and 2 pistils which are  twisted.

It is such a unique, delicate wildflower. I love the dots and the purple stamens.

Have you ever seen a Dianthus Deptford wildflower? They are blooming all over Fort Hill, so they are easy to see. The pink will catch your eye along the trails.
