It was a gorgeous day to walk out on the flats at First Encounter Beach in Eastham on Cape Cod. The flats are the exposed sand at low tide on Cape Cod Bay. And the flats seem to go out for miles!
I loved how these chairs were all set up, everyone was ready to enjoy the gorgeous day at the beach. Pretty, don’t you think?
Beautiful day to start the holiday weekend!
I was driving home from a presentation on the Blizzard of 1978 at the Eastham Historical Society when I saw that the sunset was going to be special. I took a right and went to First Encounter Beach on Cape Cod Bay. The parking lot was packed.
I wondered if there was a concert on the beach or some other activity going on. I got one of the last parking spots. Only when I got out of my car and walked down to the beach did I realize that everyone there came to see the spectacular sunset! People were sitting on the beach, swimming and just hanging out waiting for that sun to dip below the horizon.

This bench at First Encounter Beach on Cape Cod will not be empty for long as people start coming to enjoy a day at the gorgeous beaches of Cape Cod.
First Encounter Beach was named that because it was the place of the first encounter of the Pilgrims from the Mayflower with the native Nauset tribe in 1620.
The little entrance hut at First Encounter Beach in Eastham on Cape Cod looks pretty desolate this time of year. But there are still many people who come down to enjoy a walk on the beach or just to sit in their cars and enjoy the ambiance of beautiful Cape Cod Bay.
First Encounter Beach is a place on Cape Cod with historic significance. It was so named because it is the site of the first encounter between Native Americans and the Pilgrims prior to their settling in Plymouth.
Pretty soon this little hut will be the welcome mat for all who want to enjoy a day at First Encounter Beach!
