“The Common Baskettail is a medium-sized, dull brown dragonfly with a series of yellow-orange lateral spots on its stout abdomen. Many individuals have a large brown triangular spot at the base of each hindwing; however, the wings may be clear.”
I saw this Common Baskettail Dragon on one of the trails at Fort Hill in Eastham. I had never photographed one before. I love his little face.
I love to park at Fort Hill in Eastham and then hike down to Hemenway Landing which is right on Nauset Marsh on the National Seashore. There is always something interesting to see along Nauset Marsh whether it be a bird, a butterfly, a boat, kayakers or just the gorgeous views.
I took this photograph in both a horizontal and a vertical layout. Which one do you like better?
After many, many days of fog, rain wind, drizzle and lots of wind from Hurricane Jose, the skies cleared and Nauset Light Beach, part of the National Seashore, was spectacular! It was a warm day and there were a lot of people enjoying every second of it.
Phil and I were trying to figure out why there was so much traffic yesterday… maybe because it was a Sunday or maybe because everyone who has been stuck inside for over a week finally got outside to enjoy the gorgeous beaches on Cape Cod!
It was a beautiful day to take a hike at Fort Hill in Eastham on Cape Cod. The days are a little cooler and crisper and the sun was shining brightly. Perfect day at Fort Hill.
I love the little cutaways in the shrubs along the trails so you can see Nauset Marsh from many different angles. This view was just spectacular.
I have always loved seeing the Swamp Rose-Mallow wildflowers by the beaches in Connecticut and on Cape Cod. We called them “Marshmallows” when we were growing up, even though they come in pink or white. The were abundant around the ponds by the beach.
I saw this Swamp Rose-Mallow growing in the crevice of this rock at Fort Hill. I thought it was so pretty. The flowers are large, 4-7″ and grow near salt marshes and beaches.
I loved the coloring with the soft blues and light pink. What do you think?
