This was the perfect photograph to portray what it feels like to be in Provincetown. Have you ever taken this photo by the Provincetown Marina and the parking lot for MacMillan Wharf?
Love the vivid colors of the buoys…
Walking the mile long rock jetty, or breakwater, from Provincetown to Long Point Beach and Long Point Lighthouse is an experience you will never forget. The views of the expansive beach and looking back toward Provincetown are just spectacular! (Click on blog link for other photos.)
Long Point is the sandy tip of Cape Cod across from Provincetown Harbor. It is literally “Land’s End.” You can see Wood End Light in the above photograph way in the distance.
The walk out on the breakwater is across boulders the entire way, so you need to be careful and check the tides as the rocks can get very slippery at high tide.
Or, for the “faint-of-heart,” there is a Long Point Shuttle that will transport you from Provincetown to Long Point Beach!
We’ve seen this houseboat out in the waters at the end of MacMillan Pier and never knew what it was. In doing some research I found several articles on this “dune shack” and how it washed ashore at Chatham’s North Beach and was moved to Provincetown Harbor.
A few years ago the new owner “salvaged the shack from the eroding sands of North Beach in Chatham, purchased it for $1 from its owners, and used his professional resources to move the 16-by-32-foot structure out to the harbor.” It really is pretty cool.
“The spell cast by the sounds of sea — the lapping of waves, gulls, the occasional seal, and fishing for your dinner at night — is hard to resist.” I guess he likes living there… what an adventure!
The view from MacMillan Pier in Provincetown is always beautiful and always changing. The other morning there were these two blue fishing boats docked at the pier. (Click on blog link for other photo.)
I took a photograph of one of them with the Pilgrim Monument in the background. It was so pretty and so… iconic Provincetown with the boats and all of the fishing equipment at the docks.
And then I zoomed out and took one with the two boats. Oh my! The clouds were just spectacular! What do you think?
