I had never seen a Semipalmated Plover on the beaches of Cape Cod Bay, so it was a big treat to see so many of them dashing about the beach looking for food this past week.
They are a small Plover that usually migrates to coastal areas of south United States during the winter months. Maybe they were heading down that way and stopped for a bite to eat on the way?
It gots its name because it only has partly webbed feet, thus the “semi” meaning half.
The hike from Doane Rock to Coast Guard Beach on Cape Cape is one of my favorites! You walk through the woods, along the bike trail for a bit, over a bridge on Nauset Marsh where you can see the Coast Guard Station over the trees, through the woods again and then up to a spectacular overlook of Nauset Marsh and Coast Guard Beach.
It was a perfect day with temperatures in the high 50s and a slight breeze with the sun shining brightly. It doesn’t get much prettier!
It was such a pretty sunset at Boat Meadow last Saturday, I grabbed my camera and jumped in the car. It’s only about a 2 minute drive so I got there when it was still pretty.
We were just finishing a little hike on one of the trails at Fort Hill in Eastham on Cape Cod when we saw this car at the top parking lot with a Seagull perched on the roof. I don’t think the driver knew it was there, but everyone walking by did. The Seagull just stood there and paraded around on the roof, enjoying the beautiful scenery and all of the attention.
I clicked away as it was so cute. One of the cars stopped on the way out and asked if we had seen the guy’s license plate. I say, “No.” He said there was a Seagull on the license plate.
How funny is that! So I went back and clicked away again. Too funny! (I deleted the number on the license late…)
This Kite Surfer was surfing at low tide at First Encounter Beach. It was so cool! You can see the sandbars in front of him and behind him. He was surfing on the water in between. He must’ve been pretty good to do that!
It’s so much fun to see the kite surfers out at anytime of the year when it’s windy. They just put on their wet suits and go out and have a blast!
