It was a glorious day here on Cape Cod! The temps were about 74 degrees with lots of fun and a little breeze. Phil suggested that we go to the beach for a picnic. I never say no to a picnic! Fun!
Then he started putting his bathing suit on and I couldn’t figure out why, so I put mine on too. Guess we could get a little sun. We had not been to the beach in the summer months in 10 years!
Well, it was more than gorgeous so we sauntered down to the water’s edge. The water was warm! I couldn’t believe it. So in we went. I swam around for some time. It felt like July. Unbelievable.
So, I just had to post this photograph of me swimming at Boat Meadow yesterday. What a treat! I don’t think I have ever been swimming in May!
I took a walk along the beach the other day at high tide and there were Horseshoe Crabs everywhere! I counted 55 in one little area. I contacted the expert at the Massachusetts Wildlife Sanctuary in Wellfleet to tell him what I had seen. He said that with the warmer weather now, the Horseshoe Crabs will be very active.
Did you know that Horseshoe crabs are an ancient group of arthropods whose bodies are encased in a hard, oval shell? They have a long, rigid tail and five pairs of legs that they use for crawling, swimming, and gathering food.
It was really quite a site to see!
