This Snowy Egret was searching for his next meal at one of the little ponds that form when high tide recedes at Boat Meadow in Eastham. The Snowy Egret is a medium-sized white Egret with a slender black bill and long, think neck. It has a patch of yellow at the base of the bill. Their legs are black with bright yellow feet.
We were driving home yesterday after breakfast and I saw something out of the corner of my eye. I yelled, “Stop! There’s a hawk on the side of the road.” Phil quickly turned the car around and there was a Red-tailed Hawk on the ground about 3 feet from the road. He was kicking something in the leaves. I figured it must be his next meal. All I had was my iPhone so I clicked away. I got a couple of ok photographs. You can see one of them below.
We quickly drove home and I ran in and got my camera, hoping it would still be there. It was and these are the 2 photographs I got when he flew up in the tree, still only about 10 feet from me. I took a horizontal and a vertical. I couldn’t even zoom in as he was too close.
I loved this photograph of this lone surfer walking to the water with his surfboard. You can see the huge dunes that have been eaten away by the ocean over the years and the blue, blue sky in the background.
I thought it was pretty cool. What do you think?
Wishing you a Happy New Year from Cape Cod and a year filled with fun and adventure!
