Years ago, there was a golf course where the Salt Pond Trail in Eastham is now located. There is a marker by the marsh identifying the roller for the golf course in the high grass. You can see it in photograph the on the right of the trail in the distance.
“Eastham’s Cedar Bank Links, a private course, was constructed in the mid 1920’s and existed until just after World War II. The course dominated the landscape that today is occupied by the Cape Cod National Seashore’s visitor’s center and the land surrounding Salt Pond. In fact, the parking lot of the visitor’s center sits where the ninth hole use to be. The 17th green was near where the boathouses stand today.”
The skies yesterday morning were just spectacular in shades of pinks and oranges. We quickly took a ride to the salt marsh to see if we could get a good photograph of the sun coming up on our way to the gym. The colors were gorgeous! I loved the orange reflection on Boat Meadow river.
We were so surprised to see how high the tide was on the salt marsh by Boat Meadow Beach yesterday. It almost looked as if the river through the marsh was so frozen that the waters from high tide went up on the marsh. It looked like the ocean just came ashore.
It’s been really frigid here the past week. Yesterday was only in the low teens with a wind chill below zero. Brrr…
When walking to the beach, I cross the Boat Meadow Salt Marsh where you can see Cape Cod Bay on one side and the salt marsh on the other side. It is always spectacular and takes your breath away, no matter the season or weather. Mother Nature has done a fine job.
