There was such a beautiful fall reflection on Great Pond the other day. I took a horizontal and a vertical and couldn’t decide which one I like better. (Click on blog link for vertical photo.)
Which one do you like better?
I was so surprised to see so many Semipalmated Plovers at Boat Meadow Beach the other day. I thought they had migrated weeks ago. There were quite a few of them looking for food on the flats at low tide. (Click on blog link or additional photo.)
When doing a little research, I learned that Semipalmated Plovers are abundant here on the Cape until well into November!
Phil and I had commented to each other a few days ago how overgrown the bushes and vines at Fort Hill had become. In many places you could not see the marsh or ocean, which you could easily see in past years. (Click on blog link to see additional photos.)
And then Monday as we were walking at Fort Hill we came across a group of people who were clearing a lot of the overgrown bushes and vines away. It was starting to look awesome again!
We stopped and commented to them how nice it was to be able to see the views again and asked who they were. They said they were from a group called the Wilderness Volunteers who came to help out. We saw about 8-10 of them who were from all over the country. Some of the states they mentioned were Colorado, Arizona, Minnesota and Washington. Wow! They were from pretty far away!
I did a little research on the Wilderness Volunteers and learned that:
“Our mission is providing opportunities for everyone to participate in the hands-on stewardship of public lands. Working in cooperation with the National Forest and Park Service, the BLM and the US Fish & Wildlife Agency, you’ll be inspired and invigorated when you see how much a group can accomplish in a few days.”
Thank you, Wilderness Volunteers here on Cape Cod. You are already making a huge difference and we all thank you for your dedication and hard work.
I can’t believe there are so many wildflowers blooming here on Cape Cod at the beginning of November. We have not had a freeze yet, so maybe they are getting a 2nd lease on life! I saw many of these pretty lavender-blue Chicory wildflowers along the trails at Fort Hill.
Exquisite, don’t you think? Love the delicate pistils and stamens. Such a treat to still see such pretty colors along the trails.
It was a gorgeous Sunday to be out in the waters looking for oysters at Nauset Salt Pond in Eastham on Cape Cod. (Click on blog link for other photo.)
Yesterday, called “Oyster Sunday,” was the first of 3 Sundays in the fall that people can get a “Oyster” license and search for oysters in designated areas at Nauset Salt Pond and the river leading into it.
Looks like fun! This guy was walking back with his bucket full.
Have you ever participated in Oyster Sundays at the Eastham Salt Pond by the visitors center?
