It was a spectacular day for a hike at Fort Hill in Eastham. The clouds were just gorgeous. This is right past the trailhead at the lower parking lot. (A vertical photograph is at the end of the blog.)
I couldn’t decide which one I liked better… horizontal or vertical. What do you think?
When the sun gets higher in the sky, about mid-morning, the Bluebirds like to find a little branch in the sun and bask in the warmth. Sometimes you can see Bluebirds on many of the little branches way up high in the sun. This guy was about 30 feet high in the tree and there were probably 4-5 other ones on nearby branches enjoying the warm sun.
This little Bluebird was all puffed up up trying to keep warm in the cold, cold weather that we have been having!
It was such a pretty sunset with the dark clouds in the sky and a little bit of orange along the horizon. I loved how the beach grass catches the glow of the sunset.
Twinings Pond Trail is a beautiful hike in any season. It’s shaded in the summer and sheltered in the winter. The trail winds through the forest which overlooks Twinings Pond, a kettle pond, and then forms a loop back to the beginning. It’s a wide trail and perfect for the whole family! A full map is at the end of the blog.
You can see the map that we recorded with the distance and elevation. The AllTrails App has been so much fun to use!
We were so surprised to see how thick the ice was at Rock Harbor yesterday. You can see how small the 2 people on the launch ramp look next to the snow on the sides of the channel. It looks like the snow is about 8-10 feet thick. Can you see the huge rock from which Rock Harbor got its name in the distance on the right? That is one massive boulder!
Pretty impressive, don’t you think?
