It was a perfect day for an early morning bike ride to Rock Harbor and then along the Cape Cod Rails to Trails. There were no cars and no people. I had the place all to myself. Doesn’t get much batter!
Rock Harbor looks beautiful, don’t you think? The clouds were just spectacular!
With all of the birds having chicks in the past few weeks, we sure do have a lot of juvenile Baltimore Orioles in our yard. They seem to come here to feed from our “never ending Grape Jelly feeder,” for a drink and then a bath. Not bad!
This little guy was so cute in our bird bath. He almost matches the flowers in the background, huh?
I’ve been waiting for the Storkbill wildflowers to bloom at Fort Hill. They are such a pretty, little, delicate wildflower That grows in abundance on the side of the trails.
Have you ever seen a Storkbill wildflower? So pretty, don’t you think? I love the different shades of pink.
The American Copper butterflies are so colorful with their vibrant orange and black colors. I saw this American Copper at Fort Hill on the side of the trail. I almost missed it as when their wings are closed up they are a light grey with tiny black dots. It’s only when they open their wings that you can see the beautiful orange and black.
American Copper butterflies are small, only about 1″ with orange forewings and about 8 black dots and a black outer edge.
I was out in the yard early this morning when I heard the call of Northern Flickers everywhere. I looked up in the tree and there were 5 of them… 2 adults and 3 smaller ones,. They looked too big to be chicks but they were all hanging out together so maybe they were parents and chicks? The small ones were pretty big, but Northern Flickers are pretty big too.
They were bantering back and forth and flying back and forth for a while when this smaller one landed on our birdbath for a drink of water.
He’s just beautiful, don’t you think?
