The National Seashore workers have started Phase II of repairing the boardwalk on the Red Maple Swamp Trail at Fort Hill. After years of constant use and stormy winters, many of the boards need to be replaced.
You can still hike the trail from beginning to end as they are working on the offshoot of the trail. It is one of our favorite trails as it has so much to see. You hike in the woods, across a long boardwalk, along the marsh, through the fields and back up to the overlook, which doesn’t get much prettier.
Thank you, National Seashore, for all that you do to make the trails so beautiful for all of us to enjoy.
I took this photograph of this Painted Lady butterfly last September at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary when they were so prolific in this area. They were everywhere! I thought the side view was so cool. I even like that you can only see its camouflage colors.
There sure was a lot of sand at the end of Newcomb Hollow Beach parking lot after the storms. When the wind blows the sand onto the parking lots by the beaches, they need to plow the sand away to make room for the cars to park.
You can see how high the sand is at the picnic table. High but still manageable for a picnic at the beach!
The Bluebirds love our birdbath here on Cape Cod. There is frequently some birds sitting along the edge taking a drink of water and others enjoying splashing around in the bath.
High tide on Cape Cod Bay has been really high since the storms last winter. Last summer there was plenty of sand to set your beach chair down on at high tide. There is not much sand at high tide now and none as you walk around the corner there.
It will be interesting to see what Mother Nature has in store before summer…
