The purple wild Myrtle is blooming on many of the trails on the National Seashore. It is such a pretty and delicate flower. I love the tiny yellow center.

Beautiful Greater Yellowlegs At Hemenway Landing On Cape Cod
Phil and I had just taken a hike at Fort Hill when we stopped at one of our favorite benches at Hemenway Landing, also part of the National Seashore. It looks out over Nauset Marsh and you can see Coast Guard Station in the distance.
All of a sudden we heard a familiar call and looked up to see two Greater Yellowlegs land in the marsh in front of us. It’s the first ones we’ve seen this year. Such a treat!

Watch Out For Those New Sandbars At the Cape Cod Beaches!
There are so many new sandbars on the Cape Cod beaches because of the ferocious winter storms that moved the sand everywhere. It was a bit unnerving to watch this family wade through the water out to the sandbar yesterday. It was very cool on the beach. We had our winter jackets on with the wind off the water.
This family having a blast, laughing and running and fooling around on the sandbar which was getting smaller and smaller as the tide came in. I don’t think they had a clue that the water was getting deeper where they had waded out minutes before.
We were glad that they didn’t spend too long out on the sandbar as we thought it might be too deep for them to walk back to shore. They made it in time, but another few minutes and the tide would have taken over the entire sandbar. You can see in the first photo that the water is not up to their knees. In the second photo the water is well over their knees and the sandbar is considerably smaller in size as the tide comes in.
Moral of the story: Be careful of the sandbars and always know if the tide is coming in or going out before you go walking on the beach. We always check the tides so we don’t get “stuck” with the tide coming in and no place to go.

Fort Hill Tree Art On Cape Cod
With all of the windy storms that we’ve had in the past few months, there are a lot of trees and branches strewn about at Fort Hill and everywhere. Someone decided to make some of the trees and branches and and vines into “tree art.” How clever!
It looks pretty cool, don’t you think? And then we started wondering… I hope the vines that they used to tie them together are not Poison Ivy vines!
