It’s been a very busy winter at Rock Harbor watching the crews construct new bulkheads for the docks. It has been amazing what they have to do to achieve this. (Click on blog link for other photo.)
You can see the giant crane working to move some very heavy objects. That is one huge crane!
The project should be completed by the end of April when the weather gets nicer and the boats start returning.
I had never been to Longnook Beach, or even heard of it, until I read a post about it a couple of weeks ago. We decided to go and find it. Looking down from the high dunes, it is a gorgeous beach. Wow! (Click on blog link for other photos.)
There are cement barriers that block cars from entering the parking lot. It makes sense since the beach is no longer accessible because erosion has made the dunes much too steep.
You can see from the sign driving in that the beach is closed.
It was so foggy yesterday morning that it was hard to even see Nauset Marsh. And then this little Flicker stopped by. (Click on blog link for other photo.)
It was pecking around for a long while on the ground and then flew up to the fence. Why not try to make lemonade out of lemons on a foggy morning?
I opened my window and clicked away. What do you think?
Coast Guard Beach is looking pretty big lately. A lot of the sand has moved down toward Nauset Spit. It looks so pretty and so expansive! (Click on blog link for other photo.)
I took the first photo a couple of days ago and the 2nd photo about 3-4 weeks ago. In the first photo you can see Coast Guard Station and the bathhouse. I don’t remember ever being able to see both of those structures so well from that angle and so far away. It seems like the sand is so much higher on Coast Guard Beach, especially down toward the Spit.
This is also the first time in years that we were able to walk all the way to Nauset Spit at high tide. Have you noticed that too? Look how high those dunes are!
In another few weeks the boats will start trickling back into the water at Arey’s Pond Boat Yard as anxious sailors and boaters anticipate a day out on the water. Not a boat in the water now but wait… the pond will be full before you know it!
