Saving The Cold-Stunned Sea Turtles On Cape Cod Bay.

There have been over 110+ rescues of the cold-stunned sea turtles on the beaches of Cape Cod Bay in the past week. You could feel the dramatic drop in temperatures in just the past few days. (Click on blog link to see other photos.)

We were at Boat Meadow Beach the other morning when a car pulled up next to us. A couple got out and were dressed for extreme temps and with rubber boots. It was frigid with 25 mph winds. I thought perhaps they were here to walk the beaches and see if they could find any cold-stunned turtles.

They were out on the grasses when we saw them pick up 2 turtles and bring them back up to higher ground. They put one of them under the bench near us, covered it with dry grass and then went out to look some more. They were out there searching for a long time. The turtles will be treated at the Sea Turtle Hospital in Quincy, MA.

Thanks to all of the volunteers and workers who give up their time  looking for these turtles. They really are life-savers!

Gorgeous Hooded Merganser Family At Great Pond On Cape Cod.

It’s been so much fun going out each day with our binoculars and cameras trying to see which birds have migrated back to the Cape for the winter. There seems to be a new one every couple of days!

We took a drive by Great Pond in Eastham where I could see some white on what looked like a few ducks in the distance. When I got my binoculars out, I could see that they were Hooded Mergansers. What a treat! This was a first for us  this season.

As you can see by the photograph, it looks like two males and a female. I love how you can see their bright yellow eyes. Have you seen a Hooded Merganser yet this year?

Old Water Tower At Nickerson State Park On Cape Cod.

It’s really cool to see this really old water tower on one of trails in Nickerson State Park. There is a fence around it, so you cannot go near it. It is near the back part of Little Cliff Pond and Higgins Pond.

I looked online for some information about it, but couldn’t find any. Does anyone know anything about the water tower? It would be interesting to know its history.

I thought I’d re-post this blog with a new photograph, hoping that someone might know some of its history. Any historians?

John’s Foot Long In Provincetown On Cape Cod.

John’s Foot Long Restaurant is an iconic establishment in Provincetown. Even though it has an extensive menu, it is know for its foot long hot dogs, which are delicious. (Click on blog link for other photo.)

If you want to hear a fun song about John’s Foot Long, go online to www.7522radio.com and click on the Grab Brothers Band from Provincetown. Their song, “Where’s the Relish?” about the “foot longs” is just hysterical and the lyrics will stay with you forever!

(They are closed now for the winter, but put it on your list for next time you’re in Provincetown!)
