We have a couple of Carolina Wrens who have been hanging around our backyard here on Cape Cod. They have such a beautiful call and, once you know it, easy to identify.
This little guy was getting a drink at our birdbath. I clicked away and then he looked up at me.
Cute little guy, huh? Love that white stripe above his eye!
The Silver Spring Loop in one of my favorite hikes at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary on Cape Cod. The trail meanders along the spring (which looks like a very long pond) so you can see lots of birds and maybe some wildlife. A wooden bridge takes you cross the spring where the trail continues through the huge pine trees.
So much diversity along such a pretty trail. Pretty, don’t you think?
I was so surprised to see all the snow and ice on the beaches on Cape Cod Bay this week. It certainly is a different scene than a week ago when I was biking in my shorts!
This is Boat Meadow Beach in Eastham yesterday afternoon. It was pretty frigid out there! There sure was a lot of snow on the beach!
Waiting patiently for spring… Hopefully it is right around the corner!
I took a ride to Nauset Beach, part of the National Seashore, in Orleans on Cape Cod yesterday was was so surprised to see how small the beach had become after the blizzard a couple of weeks ago. You can see the high water mark and it is pretty high. There’s only a few feet of beach for people to sit on at high tide.
The dunes at Nauset Beach were pretty eroded too and the walk down to the beach by Liam’s Restaurant was surprisingly steep. It almost seems like all of the sand that eroded from Nauset Beach ended up on Coast Guard Beach a few miles away.
I took these 2 photographs looking in opposite directions on the beach. The high water mark on the first photograph is pretty high!
I have posted several photographs of the boardwalk that goes over the Red Maple Swamp at Fort Hill on Cape Cod. But I have never posted one of the swamp itself.
You can see why a boardwalk is needed when the water is high. (There is still a little ice on the swamp.) Even in summer when the water is low, it is very muddy so a boardwalk is much needed to enjoy the hike.
Red Maple Trail is a beautiful hike down a trail in the woods and then through the swamp and, soon you will be able to continue the loop all the way around and back through the meadow!
Pretty, don’t you think?
