Old Stone Foundation At Fort Hill On Cape Cod

There is a really cool stone foundation at Fort Hill in Eastham on Cape Cod. I’ve looked on the internet to see what it was for but haven’t come up with anything, other than the countryside was used for agriculture back in the day. Maybe this was an old house on the property?

You can see the foundation to the right as you walk back down from the top of Fort Hill overlooking Nauset Marsh. As you  hike around Fort Hill and across the meadows, you can see the many old stone walls that were used for farming way back when.

Do you know what the foundation at Fort Hill was?

Hike To Coast Guard Beach In Eastham On Cape Cod Is Diverse And Breath-Taking

The hike to Coast Guard Beach in Eastham on Cape Cod is spectacular and diverse. You walk through the woods on a wonderful little trail listening to all of the birds along the way and then along Nauset Marsh where you can see Great Blue Herons and Great White Egrets as well as many other birds.

The hike takes you over a bridge in the marsh with breath-taking views of Nauset Marsh and then back through a little trail in the woods up to Coast Guard Station.

From there you can walk along Coast Guard Beach which goes for miles, sit at a picnic table and enjoy a scenic picnic, relax on a bench and wallow in the beauty or turn around and head back. It is definitely one of my favorite hikes on Cape Cod! Not too long and just perfect!

Beware Of The Birds Nesting Along The National Seashore On Cape Cod

The waist-high ropes are up and the yellow signs are up along  The National Seashore on Cape Cod so that people are aware of the birds nesting on the beach and in the beach grass.

The Piping Plover, Common Tern and Least Tern are shorebirds that nest along coastal sand and gravel beaches in North America. They are difficult to see as they blend in with the sandy beach habitat. Their nests are made on the sand and are also difficult to see.

I’m sure you will see some of these roped off areas this spring if you area walking the National Seashore on Cape Cod.  If you stop and look beyond the ropes you might see some of the shorebirds nesting on the beach.
