I was taking a walk the other day and happened to look up. Oh my goodness! There, way high in the tree, was a hornet’s nest the size of a basketball. It was huge! And you could see the hornets still flying in and out. (Click on blog link for other photo.)
I had never seen a nest that big. It was hanging on the branch by just a little string. You’d think it would just blow off as the winds have been pretty stiff.
Does anyone know how late in the season the hornets will stay around?
I went out for a walk after lunch yesterday and noticed it really smelled like smoke. I looked around but didn’t see anything, so I decided to walk over to Boat Meadow. A car from the Eastham Fire Department passed me along the way with its lights flashing. (Click on blog link for other photo.)
When I got there, Deputy Fire Chief Eric Littmann was explaining that the smoke that was settling over the Eastham area was from a fire up in Boxford, MA. They had gotten calls from many concerned Eastham residents who had smelled the smoke. When the wind kicked up, the smoke made its way down here to the Cape and looked like a blanket over Eastham and surrounding areas.
