I took a walk to the beach hoping that I might see a “winter bird” at Boat Meadow Creek and I was pleasantly surprised. Here was a male Common Eider swimming about with an occasional dive for food. (Click on blog link for other photo.)

There certainly is a lot going on at Rock Harbor the past couple of months. You can see a huge crane that had to be assembled on the spot as it wouldn’t fit any other way. The only way I could get a decent photo that gave that humongous crane credibility was to take a vertical photo.
I tried googling the Rock Harbor Project online to find a rendering of it, but I couldn’t find one. Does anyone have an information or pictures of what it will look like? It would be fun to learn about what they are doing!
I went out for a walk after lunch yesterday and noticed it really smelled like smoke. I looked around but didn’t see anything, so I decided to walk over to Boat Meadow. A car from the Eastham Fire Department passed me along the way with its lights flashing. (Click on blog link for other photo.)
When I got there, Deputy Fire Chief Eric Littmann was explaining that the smoke that was settling over the Eastham area was from a fire up in Boxford, MA. They had gotten calls from many concerned Eastham residents who had smelled the smoke. When the wind kicked up, the smoke made its way down here to the Cape and looked like a blanket over Eastham and surrounding areas.
