We drove out to Duck Harbor in Wellfleet to see if there was anything interesting going on and there, sitting on top of the tree, was a Kingbird. He was just beautiful! (Click on blog link for other photo.)
The Kingbird prefers semi-open or open areas. These birds wait on an exposed perch and then catch insects in flight. “The genus name, Tyrannus tyrannus, is the Latinword for ‘tyrant’, as these birds tend to defend their breeding territories aggressively, often chasing away much larger birds.”
The picnic tables are all ready for people to come and enjoy the gorgeous views at Wellfleet Harbor. Grab a bite at the famous Mac’s Seafood Market or bring your own picnic basket. You can’t beat the view!
A few days ago, the weather warm warm and almost spring-like. And then it snowed and it looked like winter again. These snow-covered moorings from last weekend are still waiting for a glimpse of warmer weather to get put back out in the harbor for the anxious boaters!
I loved these winter photographs… what do you think?
“Uncle Tim’s Bridge was established in 1783, when it was first named “The New Bridge”. Uncle Tim’s Bridge crosses Duck Creek and connects Hamblen Island to the central village of Wellfleet. In the 1800s Timothy E. Daniels, known as Uncle Tim, had a retail shop located right across from the bridge which bears his name to this day. Uncle Tim’s Bridge is listed on the State Historic Register.”
There is a small parking lot nearby so you can take the .5 mile walk out to the island for some spectacular views.
The sun was starting to come out after the huge storm but the winds were still blowing. I love this view of Wellfleet Harbor looking out past the jetty toward Jeremy Point. The sky was so pretty…
