I love stormy days on the beach and this was a good one at First Encounter Beach, where the Pilgrims first landed on Cape Cod. The rains had stopped but the wind was blowing and there were a few people enjoying the stormy day.
The first photograph is looking out toward Wellfleet and Provincetown. The second photograph is looking back toward Rock Harbor.
There are a lot more rocks at Boat Meadow Beach since the ferocious storms last winter. Someone got creative and made some cairns from the rocks. It was really pretty along the edge of the shore. (A cairn is a pile of rocks or stones, usually used to mark the trails for hikers.) So it was pretty innovative to see them on the beach.
It was so much fun to see these kayakers out on Boat Meadow Creek enjoying the beautiful day. I’m not sure what the temperature of the bay is, but I know it is a lot warmer than the ocean. There were people swimming there a few days ago.
I love the paths that lead you to Cape Cod Bay. You walk through tall grasses on a sandy trail with Wild Roses starting to bloom and you can see the miles of flats of Cape Cod Bay in the distance.
