This was such a pretty reflection on the pond on the Beech Forest Trail. I thought perhaps the Wild Irises might be blooming, but this reflection was just as pretty! Look at those clouds! Always something new to see along that trail…
Every time we hike the Atlantic White Cedar Swamp Trail in Wellfleet, I have to smile whenever I see this guy. He looks like a pre-historic animal who greets everyone along the trail. You can see his mouth and his eye and his very long snout. He even had a few pieces of hair poking out!
Have you ever seen him? Too funny, don’t you think?
The Money Plants are gorgeous and blooming on Cape Cod. You can see them along the trails and roads just about everywhere! (Click on blog link for other photo.)
“It gets its nickname from an ancient Chinese story about a poor farmer that prayed to the Gods for wealth and fortune, only to later stumble upon a plant growing in his field. The farmer couldn’t fathom the beauty of the plant, so he began to grow more of them for others to appreciate. Quickly he became one of the wealthiest men in the area through the sales of the plant.”
I always thought it was called a money plant because when it has gone to seed, the pods look like silver coins blowing in the wind.
Wishing you all a Happy Mother’s Day! May you see some pretty wildflowers somewhere in your day.
We were taking a hike at Fort Hill the other day when we saw this gorgeous Great Horned Owl feather right in the middle of the trail. I’d never seen one up so close. Such an intricate pattern and so beautiful! Have you ever seen one?
We left the feather on the branch of a bush off to the side of the trail for others to enjoy.
PS I originally posted this as a Red-tailed Hawk feather. Stephanie Ellis, executive director of Wild Care Cape Cod, corrected me. It is the feather of a Great Horned Owl! Wow! What a treat! Thank you, Stephanie!
