Each unique building is made of gingerbread. I was most impressed when I saw that the roofs were made of Necco wafers as I knew they were taken off the market recently due to decreased popularity. We used to love them growing up, especially the pink ones!
Pretty cool, don’t you think? You can even push the button and watch the train go around!
It is so much fun when my son from California comes to visit for the holidays! It’s time to frequent our favorite restaurants and go beach-hopping! I think we walked on 6 beaches on this day from high tide at Nauset Beach, Coast Guard Beach and Nauset Light Beach to the low tide flats at Rock Harbor and Cape Cod Bay beaches. He’s always impressed when Coast Guard Beach is voted in the Top 10 Beaches in the USA.
This is a life-size Gingerbread House at the Chatham Bars Inn. It is so cool! Their Christmas decorations are just beautiful!
It is always fun to take a drive to Chatham during the holidays. The restaurants, stores and storefronts are so festive with holiday decorations. You can see their annual Christmas Tree decorating exhibit in Kate Gould Park as well as along Main St.
One of my favorite places to visit is Chatham Light. And this year it was especially beautiful with the blue sky in the background.
The first lighthouse on Cape Cod was erected in 1797 in Truro with a lighthouse in Chatham being approved by Congress in 1806. Chatham Light is needed because of the treacherous shoals and currents in the area. It’s a pretty fascinating story that you can read on the plaque if you visit the lighthouse or online. There were many different lighthouses before the present one stayed.
We have driven by the Chatham Marconi Maritime Center many times on our way to Chatham but had never stopped in. What a gem!
“In 1914, Guglielmo Marconi built a high powered wireless station in Massachusetts. The receivers were here in Chatham. Our museum tells the story of Marconi, whose company built the station, and how the station’s Morse code operators were able to communicate with ships across the world even a hundred years ago. And it tells the story of the secret role that the station played during WWII.”
There is so much to see and learn at the Marconi-RCA Wireless Museum. What a wonderful place for adults as well as children! You can self-guide yourself through the museum or listen to some of the well-informed guided talks by their dedicated volunteers.
We could have stayed for hours! It is so interesting and a definite to visit if you’re on Cape Cod!
“Sharks in the Park” are back in Chatham on Cape Cod!
This summer, fifty-four merchants in town sponsored 4′ long sharks for the town’s “Shark in the Park” activities. Various businesses teamed up with artists who painted or created sharks that are on display around town from May through the end of August, so you still have time to see them!
Each shark has a different theme and is so unique! I loved this one of Fenway Stadium. It was so cool!
