We were driving back from town yesterday morning when we saw this fishing boat in the icy channel at Rock Harbor in Orleans. I took a few photos, thinking it was stuck in the ice.
We drove down to the pier and saw some of the crew working feverishly on board to get the outriggers down. We wondered how they would get off of the boat that was stuck in the ice.
Much to our surprise they started the engines up and took off through the ice, and very easily I might add, out to the rough seas. I realized that they couldn’t put the outriggers down going down the channel in the harbor as it is not wide enough so they had to stop at the mouth of the harbor to put them down. And then I researched what they are used for and learned that the outriggers widen the trolling area for fishing.
The moral of this story… don’t write the story before it plays out! I had it all written and then a nice surprise!
It was a glorious beginning to the sunset with the new snow on the sand at First Encounter Beach on Cape Cod Bay. The colors were magnificent as it shone over the water.
There is a little river that flows behind First Encounter Beach into the salt marsh that is really pretty at low tide. If you park at the end of the road into First Encounter Beach and walk down the path away from the beach, you will find this little river which is very high at high tide and very low at low tide.
I thought this was a cool photograph that shows the sand ripples at low tide. What do you think?
The kite surfers were enjoying the very windy day at First Encounter Beach in Eastham on Cape Cod last weekend. There were quite a few of them out there.
It has been really windy here on Cape Cod and Cape Cod Bay was as rough as I’ve ever seen it. You rarely see big waves on the bayside, only the oceanside.
The tide was high with the waves crashing on the shore. I loved this photograph of Cape Cod Bay. What do you think?
