The CG36500 At Rock Harbor On Cape Cod.

The CG36500 is still in the water and docked  at Rock Harbor. “Built in 1946, it is notable for its involvement in the 1952 SS Pendleton rescue, one of the most daring such events recorded in the history of the United States Coast Guard . It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places  in 2005, and now serves as a museum boat.”

What a wonderful boat and a truly inspiring story! I’m sure it’s almost time to move this famous boat to its “winter home.”

It is so nice to see the CG36500 docked back at Rock Harbor, getting ready for the summer when people are allowed on board to tour this historic boat.

If you don’t know the story of the CG36500, it is worth doing some research as it is just amazing. If you haven’t seen the Disney movie, “The Finest Hours,” try to find it. It is an unbelievable true story of the CG36500 rescuing the crew from a sinking ship off of Chatham.

We are so privileged to have this boat in our harbor. It has so many stories to tell and so much local history.

The CG36500 Is Back In The Water At Rock Harbor On Cape Cod.

After a nice bath at Nauset Marine, the CG36500 is back in the water at Rock Harbor.

I just happened to see Nauset Marine’s FB picture of the CG36500 getting a bath a couple of days ago. And then yesterday, I just happened to be driving down Bridge Road when I saw Nauset Marine’s truck carrying the CG36500 back to the boat launch on the Eastham side of Rock Harbor, so I decided to follow it.

What a treat! The CG36500 is the center of such an amazing story about a ocean rescue off of Chatham that was made into a Disney movie called “The Finest Hours.” Truly unforgettable…
