50th Cape Cod Oldtimers Long Board Classic At Whitecrest Beach Yesterday.

The 50th Cape Cod Oldtimers Longboard Classic was held yesterday at Whitecrest Beach in Wellfleet. (Click on blog link for other photos.)

“The Cape Cod Oldtimers Longboard Classic was established in 1974 through Jasper’s Surf Shop in Eastham, MA. The surfing contest has been a fundraising event from the very beginning. Originally, all of the proceeds were donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod. Since the passing of Kenney Norton, one of the original organizers, a portion of the proceeds have been used to maintain the Kenney Norton Scholarship Fund.”

The dunes and the beach were packed with people who came out to see these Oldtimers. It was a bit foggy so not the best of viewing conditions, but a lot of fun for all who were there.

Treacherous Dunes At Whitecrest Beach In Wellfleet On Cape Cod

We took a ride up to Wellfleet to see the beaches and if they had gotten hammered by the storm last week. The sand was so high at the edge of the parking lot that you had to get out of your car to see the beach. I think that’s because they plowed all of the sand that had blown  onto the parking lot to the edge by the dunes.

There were signs at all of the beaches warning of dangerous sand dunes. At Whitecrest the sign read, “Danger Sliding Dunes.” If you look over the pile of sand, the dunes look pretty steep.
