Interesting Orange Mushroom At Wiley Park In Eastham On Cape Cod

I’ve found some really interesting mushrooms lately here on Cape Cod and am having a hard time identifying them.

I’ve looked at tons of images in my nature books and on the internet but can’t seem to find this one. It was growing directly in the dirt.

Does anyone know what kind of mushroom this is?

  1. Mel,
My friend who collects mushrooms in Maine says, ” A Varnish shelf or bracket fungi. See it quite a bit on trees that are dead or fallen over. They can fall off to the ground after they start to die. ”

So, please don’t eat it! They are pretty & colorful though!!
