I’ve seen many of these Prickly Pear Cactus flowers in the sand along the sides of the road here on Cape Cod. There are a couple of Prickly Pear Cactus plants on the road to Boat Meadow Beach.
They bloom from June through August in sandy soil and dunes and are so pretty and delicate. They are native and on the “Massachusetts List of Endangered, Threatened and Special Concern Species.”
Have you ever seen a Pear Cactus flower?
The only place I’ve seen these in Connecticut is at Northwest Park in a special organic garden that includes grains like quinoa and many different vegetables and herbs.
Such a beautiful blossom on such a prickly plant!
There was one on the Cape Cod Rail Trail bike path going east in the segment before the bridge over Bass River. But I biked today, and someone dug it out over the weekend! It’s gone!!
