Great Crested Flycatcher On Cape Cod.

Once you’ve heard the call of the Great Crested Flycatcher, you’ll never forget it! We have one that lives in the woods by our house and it is constantly calling out as it flies from tree to tree. (Click on blog link for other photo.)

We heard its call the other day and it sounded pretty close, so we kept looking up in the woods hoping to spot it… and there it was, high up on the limb of a  nearby tree.

The Great Crested Flycatcher is very noticeable with its olive-green upperparts and its yellow belly which is very easy to see as it flies about. Have you ever seen a Great Crested Flycatcher?

  1. What a handsome bird!! That is so interesting about their choices for nesting materials! Very cool.

  2. My therapist has them nesting in his year this year 2023 up in Wellfleet, MA. I myself have TONS of Baltimore Orioles this year. I’m telling you folks Bird Berry Jelly stock up on it at Amazon and get yourself a good orange colored platform feeder with cups. Plus, an orange colored weather baffle too keep the jelly protected and you’ll have an Oriole bonanza in no time…!!! They are only here from May until mid of July. So get those feeders out early folks because they aren’t here long. Before they return to Mexico and Central America. I have over 30yrs experience in the avian field. Having worked “hands on” with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey. So enjoy these feathered jewels folks.
