I look so forward to winter when the crew of “winter birds” shows up. They are so much fun to watch in the ocean and bays and salt marshes and ponds.
This Ring-necked Duck was swimming lazily in Herring Pond the other day. I always get a kick out of its name because the more noticeable ring is on its bill, not its neck.
How did the ring-necked duck get its name? It gets its name from the hard-to-see chestnut ring around its neck. Hmmmmm. Maybe it’s time to rename it the “Ring-billed Duck?”
One thought on “Beautiful Ring-Necked Duck At Herring Pond On Cape Cod.”
The Duck
Behold the duck.
It does not cluck.
A cluck it lacks.
It quacks.
It is specially fond
Of a puddle or pond.
When it dines or sups,
It bottoms ups.
