“Lopes Square… is also a significant place for the Popko family, whose members created and have carried out the tradition of the Lobster Pot Tree since 2004.
“Julian Popko created the tree with the help of his five daughters and used lobster traps, bows, lights and plastic lobsters to illuminate Lopes Square. After he died in 2017, his daughters have carried out the tradition.
“Aside from the tree, Julian Popko created other works of art in the Lopes Square area including Bubbles the Whale, the buoy bench on MacMillan Pier, a bass sculpture, a codfish sculpture and a dog-themed bench located in front of the Chamber of Commerce…”
