It’s been so cold and so windy here on the Cape that sometimes it’s nice just to take a drive. We stopped at Fort Hill yesterday morning, not expecting to see anything. It was so windy, the car was shaking!
All of a sudden, I saw some movement in the grass. At first I thought it was a Flicker with its black patch on its breast, but then it lifted its head high and I could see bright yellow on its chest. Could it be an Eastern Meadowlark? What a treat to see this colorful bird on this frigid cold winter morning!
Meadowlark fun fact:
“An Eastern Meadowlark male can sing several different variations of its song. In New York, the songs from one male were analyzed using spectrograms; the bird sang more than 100 different patterns of song.”

Wow! That is impressive!
