The Nauset Marsh Trail in Eastham is one of our favorite trails and we hike it frequently. Yesterday we had a big treat as we got to the overlook and said, “Wow!” (Click on blog link for other photo.)
Someone had been very busy clearing away the trees and brush and the results were stunning! Thank you, Cape Cod National Seashore, for all of your hard work! What gorgeous panoramic views of such a pristine place!
Color or black and white… which do you like better?
The color photo has that golden glow between the sun and the water. Very pretty. 🙂
Some history from the National Park Service:
Nauset Marsh Overlook:
Champlain’s Vision
Charted by the French explorer Samuel de
Champlain in 1605, Nauset Marsh was then a
navigable bay. The explorer also noted a number
of beehive-shaped homes and felds on the
hillsides, placed there by the native Nausets. As
time passed, the ocean continued to develop a
narrow stretch of sand along the outer shore.
We now know this as Nauset Spit. The spit acted
as a protective arm, or barrier beach, and this
allowed the extensive salt marsh to develop.
