There was a huge flock of birds out on Nauset Marsh, part of the National Seashore, the other day. Many were Double-Crested Cormorants with some Seagulls and Egrets mixed in.
I was so surprised when I got home and counted 8 Great Blue Herons on the far shore. I wonder what brought them all together…
I had never seen that many together before. Have you?
The flocks might be gathering for migration, or maybe they’ve all spotted a BIG school of fish!
What is that large gray shape in the marsh grass?
Maybe a 9th Great Blue starting to take off? The Great Blues stay around here for the winter, so maybe some good fish nearby?
Amazing gathering of beautiful birds! Wow…… I think that large one is a frat blue heron in flight. Spectacular sight!
Thank you for such a great shot, Mel!
Thanks, Tree! I think so too!
